The Best Thing You Can Do to Forestall Global Warming

Or another way to consider the question. What's the worst thing you can possibly do to contribute to global warming?

Is it to procreate?

The average American causes 18 metric tons of CO2 emissions. That's the equivalent of flying from LA to New York and back 3.4 times per month. If you flew that route 3 times a month rather than have a child you'd be doing the world a favor.

The comedian Bill Burr is onto something here (language warning).

Funny stuff and there is something there. We got regulations out the ying-yang, but none for making kids.

I was given a $45 ticket and a citation because my in-laws left the back gate unlocked and our dog got out. He wasn't registered with the State so we got a ticket, but pop out kids with no job, no intelligence and with as many different daddy's as you want and we'll give you money!

Being rich doesn't guarantee smarts or that the individual is worthwhile.
However such prejudices guarantee that the holder's lack of worthiness.
Anyone want to bet that most number of advancements come from those with wealth ? hmmm? I give odds ;-)

Even a 6th grade math would prove that Tribal Africans with large families create less CO2 than the Average US citizen. Simple reasoning shows that it the profligate consumption that is the problem.
His humour is in the absurdity of his Prejudicial (Tea Party) reasoning.

PS In fact I don't know of any organism that needs more than one father each. New biology from "intelligent design" (sic).
BTW I had two Dads and two Moms. (one genetic Dad and one genetic mom)
So apparently I shouldn't have been allowed to exist or because of that I'm a lessor person than... who ?
Sometimes you are really insulting.
PPS Perhaps you should check the actual numbers of SS recipient moms with children from multiple fathers I think you'll find there are Way more Moms and children of divorces that never get on SS ...mostly because of remarriages... also note many come rich or privileged family backgrounds.
Then again small minded bigotry doesn't need facts.

Why is it the default position for folks like yourself when discussing tough topics to immediately go to the bigot or race card?

It doesn't hurt me any, but it is always intersting that is the default reaction.

So - two people can decide to make a baby regardless of their ability to care for that child - there is no regulations, there is no background checks, there is nothing stopping those two people to create life. That is off limits from any discussion?

Well then explain to me the adoption process? Why then does it take months, requires interviews, requires you to prove you can take care of a child financially, requires people to come to your house - look through your life and those people determine your ability to adopt a child if my position is so wrong?

With your thoughts - I should be able to go down to the adoption agency, sign a document and walk out with a kid right?

I may be insulting with my views, but it doesn't make me wrong or a bigot - just a straight shooter.

Regulate everything you say, except child birth of course.

Chad, one reason I expect that adoption is more regulated is because if adoption were easy and without background checks you'd expect people to just acquire children for the purpose of abusing them. Maybe turning them into what would effectively be slaves. That's less likely to happen with parents that are giving birth to a child (not that it never happens) because it's not unusual for parents to have a different emotional connection with a biological child. Also it requires a lot of effort to bring a child to term and give birth. It's costly. Higher costs make it less likely for a person to create a child for the purpose of abuse.

That's just me speculating though.

Chad, I think the piece at your link is satire. Are you taking it seriously?

Chad,
I called you Insulting, which you were and I explained why. I was born out of wedlock and wasn't that your point!
Try to hurt you gees haven't you learnt yet I don't do that.
I did not call you a bigot read it again .
Default position my arse.
I note you ignored the rest of what I said.....You tend to talk about YOU and your VIEW not discuss or even apologise/ admit when you are proven wrong.
Look up 'Bigotry' in the dictionary.

Examinator said...

Jon,
One wonders on what basis one COULD regulate child birth.
China's system has created more problems than they anticipated.
The breaking down of the extended family SS. A preponderance of males. The new generation Chinese woman is less willing to be chattel... over worked slave.
The family farm is becoming too hard to operate without lots of sons.
The net result is less farms and urban underclass that is compelled to rent 'hot beds' ala England in the industrial revolution.
many males can't get brides...crime and prostitution etc is rising

If I didn't know better I would think that you are making a case for government to increase regulations of individuals. Considering that you are a strong advocate of individual freedom and all that would be odd indeed. To be consistent - what you should be arguing for is in support of the thing you are criticizing.

Your case, within the context, ought to be that people should not need to register their pets.

Chad said...

Paul - exactly right, I couldn't believe that we got a ticket because our dog was not 'registered'. I was stunned and shocked that it was a real law. Thankfully I made a couple calls today and it looks like the ticket will be dismissed (neighbor has some pull).

Shocked!

Chad said...

Jon - Solid point about adoption. I could see how a small group of people might abuse that situation. Not saying that the same people don't put on the dog + pony show for the adoption people today then do the same thing once adopted - it would just take longer.

How about the opposite arguement, irresponsible man and women make baby with no intention on properly feeding, teaching, clothing and grooming a child - isn't that just as bad?

Chad said...

BTW - Did you get your Chick-Fil-A today? I went twice - lunch and dinner to support them. Stood in line for about 45 minutes at lunch and since it was a late dinner had to wait only 25 minutes tonight.

Jon said...

Totally separate topic, but you're against gay marriage? You support Chick-fil-As's efforts to block freedom? Prevent people from marrying who they want to marry even though gays getting married does you know harm?

Getting the government out of our lives is great when it comes to stopping them from helping the poor. But when it comes to allowing people to express love and commitment to one another now it's time to bring in the heavy hand of government and prevent this freedom. Why are you in favor of so much big government suddenly?

Suppose a dog with rabies (the owner went hunting with his dog) was in your but not from your street and bit you or one of yours.
The authorities came and got the dog
You or yours has a dangerous disease with a painful and dangerous treatment wouldn't you :
a. what the authorities to find the owner.
a. want the irresponsible 'owner to pay for the damage.
b. fined for his multiple failure in personal responsibility

Also supposing your dog got out and went some blocks away and crapped on someone's lawn the owner (a gun owner) shot the dog wouldn't you want restitution for your expensive pet? or it was picked up by a neighboring district ... no registration ...must be feral it's 'gassed'.
While registration is flawed how else would you recommend the authorities attempt to protect the people including you?
I'm sure the authorities world wide would be interested? It's a case of the lessor of two evils.
BTW those places that don't enforce registration have problems with ferals (attacks, crap everywhere, damage, even car accidents and diseases big time.

Personally I am not in favor of the gay lifestyle, but I have friends that are gay. As long as I don't have to pay for their decisions and they respect my house rules (no kissing, grab azzing or such) then they are always welcome. In fact I generally enjoy their company. We avoid going to their parties because they have different house rules, but it is good.

Gov't wasn't involved today (politicians were) - a company stood up for traditional values they beleieve in and the left/gays think they were somehow wronged which they were not and tried to attack them. I was there supporting their right to voice their opinion. Besides they have a killer spicy chick sandwich.

Chad said...

BTW the decision on allowing gays to marry/not marry that is a State issue. If a state wants it and the state is willing to take on any affects caused from the decision then so be it. What people do behind closed doors, in their own homes - as long as it is not illegal or could cause harm to others - don't care.

Jon,
The giant flaw with Tea bagger republican (common man thinking (sic to both)) is that it's easy to jump up and down and complain about regulations etc but they have NO WORKABLE solutions and when pinned down to the flaws in their generalisations they try to hide behind the alleged impunity (sic) of "straight talk/ shooting " (sic) A bit like riding in a crowded vehicle with loaded and cocked weapons..i.e. no concern for anyone else who may get hurt/injured by 'an accident' (sic) (...looking for somewhere to happen) then indirectly blaming a victim for their refusal to accept that THEY IN *A SOCIETY* HAVE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES TO OTHERS and think FIRST.
Perhaps it might be apposite to consider The 4 way test of the International Rotary Club

Chad said...

Ex,

Responsible owners have a Micro chip, a collar with full name, house address plus phone number and who is registered with AKC - those type of owners (like us) are prepared for any issues and it didn't require gov't. If an owner can't even put a name/contact tag on a dog do you really think they are going to take the time to register it with the state because someone made it a law? Common sense is a tough one for you isn't it? If you care about an animal, it gets a collar, name tag and contact info first day - where is gov"t needed?

But if Johnny dog catcher is on a power high that day - the dog gets snatched. Maybe he was a democrat (dog has a Tea Party Patriot Collar), maybe he was looking to create job security or maybe he was just pissed he was a dog catcher. Either way he made a couple bad decisions on that day. First was not having some damn common sense and calling the phone number and the second was ticking me off by giving my wife a hard time and a citation. Tomorrow Johnny dog catcher will be coming over to give a formal apology for both.

Examinator said...

Chad,
There are always excesses and individuals who exceed their authority and maybe this dog catcher is one.
As I've sad before one bad act by one person doesn't define either the person or negate the reality that responsible dog ownership comes in many degrees.
I've seen KCC breeders who shouldn't be allowed to own dogs much less breed them.
What if the loved pet's owners have been forced to move from state to state to work?
Who is going to keep track of multi offenders problem dogs/owners? Then who is going to pay for it rate payers? Are you really that naive as to how how councils run?
I have two pedigees who are chipped and I register them with the council BECAUSE I KNOW how they work and despite our attention 'shit does happen' (BTW did I mention I've been a councillor?)
Face it People aren't either good or bad.
But in reality this is a distraction because you have a bee in your bonnet.
The subject was ACC and the satirical approach to birth rate reduction.
Deciding birth restriction to IQ and 'responsible people' (Only Allah et al Knows how to determine that that!) simply Eugenics and that requires Bigotry to be the defining selector.
End

Chad said...

Ex - Still evaluating this situation - you made some good points that must be taken in consideration.

I'm not convinced that registering any animal with gov't increases the owners responsibility level any further - it does lay blame at the feet of someone if something bad does happen I guess, but I suspect that if your abusing animals then you most likely are not registering them anyhow - you know what I mean?

If you care for animals - like you and I obviously do - we take it upon ourselves to properly tag and care for it. What I am not understanding is how a law like registering your dog would cause someone who does not respect animals to follow the law and therefore it seems like an over reach - an added and un-needed expense on good owners basically.

Like car ownership - you and I take it upon ourselves to title, insure and maintain our property - not just because it is a law, but to protect each other in case of a bad day (accident/injury). But there are plenty of vehicle owners who choose not to insure or maintain their vehicles regardless of the law by choice - in the end you and I pay higher premiums because of those folks regardless of our stellar record. Granted if the un-insured get caught they get a ticket, maybe some jail time so there is a correlation there I can see, but it still feels like an over reach. A penalty - if you will - for good owners for being responsible.

BTW - I have a Samoyed. He was set to be put down by the breeder because he was too large to show so I picked him up 9 years ago. A 102 lb baby is all he is.

We give people tax credits for having kids, what about a tax credit for abstaining?

Chad and all
We have similar stories with our pooches breeders cast offs
Ones a Bouvier des Flanders a big cream one ...Looks 'like sheep that barks' (with a mile wide individualist streak). Not a constant barker...but when it gives its cranky or warning bark one can feel it in the window panes. a mouth that would comfortably half cover a German shepherds head and Canine teeth like a panther. Other than that it's bark is more like talking a series of low soft ones. They train brilliantly and good with children.

We went to a property ( 100 acres mosly bush)sniffed out and chased down a Kangaroo and bowled her over using her shoulder. Then sat waiting for the 'roo to get up...it was playing....did I mention they don't usually bite. They were bred to move cattle in stock yards by bumping them with their shoulders. The breed were used in the battle fields in WW1 and WW2 to pull carts/stretchers.
Amazing dogs. On the one occasion when two thugs approached me down at the beach during a late night walk...They were up to no good. The dog sat by me and didn't do anything, until I blended the key word ( emphasised 'WATCH').i.e. 'WATCH out for the dog she's nervous of strangers' She stood barked and bared her huge teeth and the thugs changed their minds and walked off.
Yet the first one we had the children (5,7,8 used to harness her to their soap box cart and she would pull them around. And the daughter (5) used to 'dress her up'.
She would monitor what they did. if a stranger frightened the children, got to close or raised their voice she would go on guard.
Not surprisingly we never had any incidents that bothered us.

The other is a Shihtzu which is the perfect suburban dog barks only when someone comes to the door to notify us then welcomes them in once inside. Both dogs are non allergenic dogs i.e. they don't drop fur (moult).
The shitty sue can be 18 years old and still believe they are and play like puppies. The 'Shimitzu' is my wife's dog. She cuddles like a cat (without the problems) it sits on her lap or the chair next to her and watches TV or sleeps at night...mainly sleeps.
Bed time the Shihtzu is on the foot of the bed and the Bouve is on the floor. Short of a SEALs attack we have no fears...no guns required.

I have a Crimson Conure that sit on my shoulder in my 'office'
Two turtles in a above ground swimming pool.(daughter's degree legacy)
Regular visits (daytime rousting) a pair and sometimes chicks Tawny Frogmouth 'Owls' sic they are actually nightjars. in the outside veranda roof beams.(at the back) they never poop or leave fur balls.
Green tree frogs in our fernery at the front.
In the garden resident Bearded dragons that come out and sun bathe ..
Assorted birds in the fruit trees and recently a Bush turkey in the backyard on the compost heap...he'd set up his breeding mound across the road at the neighbor's back yard while they were on holiday. (
Most late nights we are serenaded by the area's STONE curlews (birds) as they call and have their domestics as they patrol for bugs etc on the grass at the front of the street. It a cross between loud shrieks and Intense whistles. Looking for bugs etc.
And a hive of native stingLESS bees
Clearly we are animal/ nature friendly people.

Chad,
You'd hate Australia. Too many regulations.
Although the problem you spoke of regarding old 'baggers' doesn't really exist here. All vehicles must be registered and have 3rd party insurance. The choice of who of the 40 companies authorised to sell 3rd party is up to the individual. The companies are vetted so they are highly unlikely to fail and can pay All appropriate claims. There are of course the odd criminally inclined fraud... once caught they never escape prison term.
No second hand car can be sold or ownership changed without a road worthy must have a roadworthy.
Police here can and do stop 'bombs' check they are roadworthy if they're not they are "Canary-ed" a yellow sticker is put on the windshield and it can't be driven.. the owner must fix the fault within 7 days or the registration is cancelled.
Driving an un-roadworthy vehicle is an offence .... vehicles like the 'before' on pimp my ride simply don't exist on the road.
One can choose to buy comprehensive insurance which most people do.
Consequently it's interesting to note that there is a marked difference between Aust and the US on deaths in Vehicles of substandard nature.
Then again Aussies accept all this as it gives 'everyone a fair go' its the same for rich or poor No exceptions.
I approve this message
;-) :-P

My wife and I dream of opening a rescue facility for dogs. Unfortunately we found the regulations, insurance burden and unknowns just too much to risk it at that time. Thinking now I might be something we do once we retire.

I liked my time in Austrailia (Sydney), but we didn't venture very far - felt very much like a US city there.
