Manning's lawyer has the details here. Pre-trial punishment appears to have been brought to an end. It's encouraging to see the positive effects grass roots activism can have.
I brought up his treatment to some conservatives I know here at work, and their common response was that he was a soldier...and soldiers are treated differently than civilians.
I guess when you join the military you give up several basic rights afforded to civilians and this MAY be one of those cases.

Anyway, I thought that was interesting.
That's true, but his conditions still violated the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
