2010 Warmest Year On Record

Once again it seems that conclusions based on science are pretty reliable. That same science makes predictions. We'd better consider them.

Maybe one day you will move away from debating the Rush Limbaughs of the world to debating the people behind Rush Limbaugh, the actual movers and shakers of policy debate. See here and here for two examples.

Maybe one day you'll stop being an ass hole but I doubt it.

This is my blog so I get to decide what the subject matter will be. More and more the general public is shifting away from belief that global warming is occurring. So I think it's worth addressing these widespread erroneous views. Views shared by people I talk with routinely. If that's not interesting to you then skip it.

I'll continue to be an asshole, thank you very much. :-)

Just as long as you know: there are the "sheep" Republicans who are not interested in ideology per se, but a comfort zone. Then there are the intellectuals, those who crave argument.

It's like debating my grandma about the Catholic Church vs say, Peter Kreeft.

I've long ago found it worthless to debate the sheep. Not, atleast, until they are ready and open to it. The more you do, the more you will find that they are less interested in "truth" than in comfort.

This goes for everything: politics, religion, etc.

(and, yes, I do believe that if you deny that any global warming is happening, and certain part of it is due to humans, than you are a sheep...)

Btw, the reason the public is moving away from a belief in global warming is mainly due, IMHO, to the economy. Environmentalism is a luxury...and the poorer we become, the less we put it as a high priority - especially higher than say, job creation.

In other words, when the economy goes down, people are not moved by logic, they are moved by emotion. And its that emotion that leads them to conclude otherwise on global warming (I see the same thing with support for immigration).

I think it is useful to talk to the so called sheep. Important changes have occurred in our country due to grass roots movements that aren't touched or considered by the political class or powerful class. Take the Vietnam War. The political class was fully on board with it. There was no changing them. They were comfortable where they were. It was the people that made the difference. They also earned free speech for us by the way. It was grass roots efforts. People just went out and broke the Stalinist laws and finally earned some rights that we now enjoy. Not that they aren't trying to take them back now.

Following the success of the health care lobby as it related to Obama's health care legislation the American Petroleum Institute, backed by the Chamber of Commerce, publicly stated that they intended to use the lessons learned to convince people that global warming is something we need not be concerned about, if it's happening at all. Do you think that has had any impact on public opinion?

Nope. I think its largely the economy.

Those fools at the Chamber of Commerce and API. Wasting their money on propaganda. That never works.

Do you think that the fact that so many Republican candidates in Congress and the Senate deny global warming is because they are suffering from financial hardship?

The second article shows that as the evidence has mounted that global warming is man made Republican Congressional candidates have actually moved in exactly the opposite direction. Again, is this because of the tough economy?
